We held a wet labo practice using pig eyes on Nov. 9th ＆ 16th, 2013. Medical students, Internship doctors and students from Vienna joined the practice.

Even my internship at Ophthalmology Department at the Nagoya University Hospital was already over, Dr. Asami enabled me to practice a Cataract surgery on a pig eye. During my internship I have already seen several Cataract surgeries and I also have practiced on a simulator, so I already could understand the procedure. I want to thank the doctors, who supervised me at the whole time of the surgery practice. Practicing on this pig eye was a very good step to deepen my knowledge and a great experience!

On November 16th 2013, I was offered the unique possibility of performing cataract surgery on a pig’s eye. Although I already had gotten insight into the several operation steps by practicing with the VRmagic simulator, I could study the anatomy of the eye as well as the handling of the surgical instruments under real conditions this time. It was fascinating, but sometimes also demanding to do capsulorhexis, phacoemulsification and implantation of an intraocular lens by yourself, but thanks to Dr. Asami, I understand the concept of microsurgery much better now than before. It was an unforgettable opportunity and I am very glad, that I could seize it.
